Greetings Coup Stoppers!
This week our campaign team and some volunteers are in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention to continue sounding the alarm about Project 2025 – and to amplify a call for action.
Today we’re releasing an online action Petition to demand public release of the still-secret “180-Day Playbook” which represents Pillar 4 of Project 2025’s sweeping master plan to remake America into a conservative Christian nation.
Our petition supports a call and letter made public on August 6th by a Congressional Task Force on Project 2025 to Kevin D. Roberts, head of the Heritage Foundation, who is helming Project 2025. The letter was signed by cofounders Rep. Jared Huffman and Rep. Ayana Pressley, along with Rep. Jamie Raskin, and 35 other Congressional members. It calls on Roberts to appear before Congress to discuss the playbook: if its proposals are not illegal, there is no reason not to make it public. Roberts appears to have ignored a Friday, August 16th deadline to respond, but we add our voice to that demand.
As our petition points out, this issue is more urgent, following media revelations last Thursday that Project 2025’s architects have completed possibly hundreds of Executive Orders and other measures in this Playbook for “Day One” implementation. This revelation was made via a Center for Climate Protection media sting and secret recording with Russell Vought, a Project 2025 author. His Center for Renewing America think tank is leading development of the legal strategies detailed in the Playbook.

This week, some 100,000 DNC protesters are expected to rally in Chicago to demand an end to US funding of Israel’s war in Gaza and an immediate ceasefire. Our Middle East paper details Project 2025’s positions on the war in Gaza, Israel and Palestinians and the ongoing demands before the UN and international courts for justice to address charges of war crimes and genocide. We also spotlight the right-wing’s deliberate weaponization of anti-Semitism against student protesters who support Palestine on US campuses and in the street, which Project 2025 backers consider an attack on US interests. They disregard our 1st Amendment rights to free speech, assembly -- and protest. It also masks a political strategy to attack progressive leaders and DEI policies on campuses across America.
We’re also well aware that some progressives, including younger folks, feel so passionately about the need for a US policy change toward Israel and Palestine that they may sit out this election or remain uncommitted unless there’s a ceasefire and end to US funding of the war. Some see little difference in Republican vs. Democrat positions on Gaza. Project 2025 is a secondary issue to them. We believe people can care deeply about what’s happening in the Middle East AND take action to stop Project 2025. Their plan would criminalize protests and take away other civil liberties. We urge young people in particular to read our Middle East and youth papers on Project 2025, then vote their conscience --- but know the facts.
Our new paper on Youth discusses how Project 2025’s policies would have greater cumulative negative impact on young people and future generations, including its reversal of existing climate protections and removal of regulatory safeguards to assure clean air, soil, food, water, etc. Please share with youth activists who are critical voices of resistance to Project 2025.

Project 2025’s architects take a dim view of elites. That’s richly ironic, considering how many Project 2025 authors benefited from the very education they deem so dangerous to America.
